The Tasmanian Tiger (Thylacine) |
The last Tasmanian tiger died in a Hobart zoo on 7th Sept 1936. A marsupial dog like creature with a barred pattern on its fur it was hunted and killed by farmers throughout Tasmania, and there is some evidence of small populations hunted down in South Australia at the very beginning of white settlement. In Tasmania there was for some years a bounty and so these animals were killed. It was too late when it was realised there were few left in the 1920’ and 30’s.
